My name is Jess and I am one of the newest members of Bluestone Bike & Run! Although this will be my first Summer in Harrisonburg I have been running the roads and more recently trails of the Burg for about six years. After graduating with my Bachelor's degree from James Madison University in Kinesiology, my love for running, fitness, and quality education encompassing the two drew me back to JMU where I am currently a second year graduate student studying Exercise Physiology. Having been a runner since the 7th grade, endured countless hours of cross country and track practices and have enough bib numbers to cover a billboard I naturally became part of one of the greatest sport club organizations at JMU (in my opinion :)), Club Cross Country and Track. Throughout my involvement with Club XC & Track I became tightly intertwined with the group realizing how powerful being a part of a running community could be. This became even more apparent when I started trail running.
I got my first taste of trail running my sophomore year crewing for a family friend who was running in an ultramarathon called the Grindstone 100 miler. I never knew anything to this caliper existed, and I was hooked. The community of ultrarunners is like no other and reminds me of the cross country atmosphere I love and cherish. I have always secretly wanted to work in a running shop and this has presented an opportunity to not only become more a part of and grow the Harrisonburg running community but learn the mechanics and workings of bikes. What better way to spend the summer? (Seriously.)
