With the Old Man Winter arriving Saturday to cripple Harrisonburg, we closed the shop early and headed west to Davis West Virginia. Our Intention was to explore the back woods of white grass ski touring center.
The Small wood lodge at white grass is where you rent skis, pay for your day pas and enjoy amazing foods with friends and strangers. This is like base camp where everyone from novice snow shoers and expert back country skiers become best friends.
Our group made it to the top of the mountain and out the pipeline into the National Forrest where there was over 36 inches of snow blanketing high alpine forests.
Through out the trails there are small huts with snacks and bird seed so you can take a break, refuel, and feed the plump chickadees that are all too familiar with eating from human hands.
Like back woods single track the ski trails switch back up the snow blasted mountain into a winter wonderland
nothing like the giggle that gliding on the snow produces!
Zach our tour guide takes us deep into the belly of the beast. UP! UP! UP!
On top of the mountain the pine trees are like a fairy tale, tall skinny pine trees blanketed in heavy snow gives you a surreal closed in feeling.
When the storm cleared the snow covered trees and blue skies made breath taking views.
