Mountain Climbs Worthy of a Grand Tour, with the Character and Grit of a Classic
The Most Challenging Gran Fondo in the States!
Jeremiah Bishop nicknamed his favorite training route "The Alpine Loop" after the glorious mountain top meadows, winding climbs and hillside farms reminiscent of the Austrian, German and Swiss settings where he has competed. Now this magnificent scenery is the backdrop for the most challenging and adventurous Gran Fondo in the United States. The route begins in Harrisonburg, Virginia and covers approximately 104 miles featuring over 11,000 feet of climbing, including an incredible dirt climb up the Dark Side of Reddish Knob! Visit AlpineLoopGranFondo.com/routes to learn more.
Something Fun for Everyone!
The Shenandoah Mountain Adventure and Valley View Challenge options encourage and challenge cyclists of all abilities to join in the festivities of the Gran Fondo. At 75 and 35 miles, these courses showcase the ideal scenery that make Harrisonburg and Rockingham County, Virginia and Pendleton County, West Virginia famed riding destinations. Not sure which ride is for you? Visit AlpineLoopGranFondo.com/routes to learn more, including any changes in store for the 2013 event.
Downtown Harrisonburg, at the heart of "The Bike Capital" of Virginia is a great setting for family fun. The parade-style start of the Gran Fondo takes place on the historic Main Street. One block from the venue, you'll find art galleries, clothing boutiques and specialty shops.
